9 November 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that the Government of Japan will host two meetings related to disasters, including an international conference to share lessons from the Great East Japan Earthquake in late 2013, and the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in 2012.
According to UN/ISDR, the Japanese offer was made during the debate on the latest report of the Secretary-General on Implementation of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (A/66/301) to the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
