14 May 2010: The Japan-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Friendship and Cooperation Fund has approved a US$267,466 project to assess the impacts of climate change on the energy sector in CARICOM countries.
The project, titled “Establishment of Regional Capacity and Expertise for Addressing the Impacts of Future Climate Change on Energy Demand in CARICOM Countries,” aims to improve the framework and build expertise to address adequately the impacts of climate change and climate variability on future energy demand and supply. The transfer of technology among local, regional and international organizations features among the expected outcomes from the project.
The project will be managed by the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology, and piloted in Barbados, Dominica and Guyana. It is anticipated that the model will be applicable region-wide. [CARICOM website] [CARICOM Press Release]
