12 December 2010: The second meeting of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum was held in Tunis, Tunisia, on 11 December 2010, on the basis of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Japan and the League of Arab States.
The meeting concluded with the “Tunis Declaration,” in which both sides reconfirm their determination to cooperate in the field of oil and natural gas both in the upstream and downstream sectors. They underline the importance of developing renewable energy, welcoming the development of concrete projects relating to photovoltaic and solar thermal energies with the participation of both public and private sectors.
They also discussed the possibility of cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of nuclear energy, agreeing to continue to exchange views on the matter, with the Arab side welcoming the participation of Japanese enterprises in constructing nuclear power plants for the production of electricity.
