December 2012: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), have released the first in a series of animations that provides a summary of opportunities for improved water management.

The first video focuses on water pumps and understanding the factors that influence their use by smallholder farmers. The film is an element of the AgWater Solutions project, which aims to understand how farmers can gain access to increased water management tools through research, testing strategies and business plans, as well as communicate results with government, the public and the private sector. The project was devised as a three-year programme to evaluate options for improving smallholder agricultural water management, and to create and disseminate a portfolio of promising interventions that can be deployed in support of agrarian poverty reduction for female and male smallholders in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

The project recognizes that farmers will only invest in agricultural water management options if they make economic sense. IWMI and IFPRI are members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [Agricultural Water Management Solutions Video] [IWMI AgWater Solutions Project]
