The project, targeting the Emerald Triangle Protected Forests Complex, aims to protect 16 species listed as endangered and critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and to promote alternative livelihood opportunities.

Activities supported through the project include: the establishment of a joint task force and the development of management plans for the protected forests ecosystems and species; the establishment of a regional advisory committee of stakeholders and implementing agencies to enhance participation; and the development and promotion of alternative livelihood opportunities for local communities, including through eco-tourism projects.
