ITTO Releases 2013-2014 Assessment of World Tropical Timber Situation

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has published the 'Biennial Review and Assessment of the World Timber Situation 2013-2014,' which provides data on the production and trade of primary wood products with an emphasis on tropical primary wood products in 82 countries.

ITTO logoAugust 2015: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has published the ‘Biennial Review and Assessment of the World Timber Situation 2013-2014,’ which provides data on the production and trade of primary wood products with an emphasis on tropical primary wood products in 82 countries.

The biennial review consists of four chapters. The introductory chapter provides an overview of the publication and addresses its scope and structure, data sources and limitations and market developments. The second chapter discusses production, trade and prices of primary products, including tropical logs, sawnwood, veneer and plywood. The third chapter addresses trade and prices of secondary processed wood products (SPWPs), including: SPWP data sources and trade classification; SPWPs and trade overview; wooden furniture and parts; builders’ woodwork and joinery; other SPWPs; mouldings; and bamboo and cane furniture and parts. The fourth chapter contains references.

The report also includes six appendices on: production and trade of timber in 2010-2014; direction of trade in volume of primary tropical timber products between major ITTO producers and consumers in 2013; major tropical species traded in 2011, 2012 and 2013; price indices of major tropical timber and selected competing softwood products; trade in SPWPs in 2006-2013; and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Timber Committee Statement on Forest Products Markets in 2013 and 2014.
