In its 2011 Annual Report, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) summarizes its activities in 2011, which was the UN International Year of Forests and ITTO's 25th anniversary.
The report describes the delivery of new projects under five thematic programs, and contains a review of the world timber situation, highlighting a drop in both timber prices and production in 2011 compared to 2010.
August 2012: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has released its Annual Report for 2011, outlining the organization’s activities during what was declared the UN International Year of Forests, which was also the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ITTO.
The Annual Report describes the release of ITTO’s second report on “The Status of Tropical Forests Management, SFM Tropics 2011.” It details new and continued collaborations with other groups and processes involved in the promotion of tropical forests, in particular with members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF). It also describes a commemorative ceremony held in Yokahama, Japan to mark the 25th anniversary of ITTO, which included a symposium on “Celebrating a Quarter Century of Sustaining Tropical Forests.”
The report further describes the delivery of new projects under five thematic programs: Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (TFLET), Reducing Deforestation and Forest Degradation and Enhancing Environmental Services in Tropical Forests (REDDES), Community Forest Management and Enterprises (CFME), and Trade and Market Transparency (TMT) and Industry Development and Efficiency (IDE). In 2011, funding was approved for 43 projects totaling almost US$13 million.
