international-trade-center23 April 2014: The International Trade Centre (ITC) announced that it will assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in meeting the legal requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA). The support is part of ITC’s efforts to foster sustainable economic development and contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in developing countries and countries with economies in transition through trade and international business development.

Aiming to help SMEs comply with trade procedures, conduct cross-border trade, and integrate into global value chains, ITC will support SMEs in: notifications to the WTO; national ratification of the protocol of amendments; and evaluation of financial and technical assistance required for Category C provisions (provisions for implementation after a transitional period of time and the provision of assistance and support for capacity building). ITC will also help promote the TFA’s efficient implementation through capacity building and policy formulation. [ITC Press Release] [WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement Timeline]
