story highlights

The first meeting of IRENA's Policy and Strategy Committee concluded that IRENA should: build on its strength to convene and mobilize stakeholders; collect best practices in renewable energy deployment; build a renewable energy atlas focusing on potentials, policies, education and resources to spur further renewables progress on the ground; and actively highlight renewable energy news, analysis and reviews to member States, the private sector and the public.

13 September 2011: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has convened the first meeting of its Policy and Strategy Committee, where participants agreed that, within five years, IRENA should become a “one stop shop” for renewable energy analysis and advice.

The meeting took place on 10-11 September 2011, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Participants discussed IRENA’s 2012 work programme as well as its longer strategic vision. It concluded that IRENA should: build on its strength to convene and mobilize stakeholders; collect best practices in renewable energy deployment; build on early work on a renewable energy atlas focusing on potentials, policies, education and resources, to spur further renewables progress on the ground; and actively highlight renewable energy news, analysis and reviews to member States, the private sector and the public.
