IPPC Secretariat Calls for Technical Resources for Phytosanitary Measures in Developing Countries
story highlights

The IPPC has called for the provision of technical resources for a project that will make such resources available to developing countries in order to support their efforts in implementing the IPPC's International Standards for Phytosantiary Measures.

IPPC17 June 2011: The Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) has invited Regional Plant Protection Organizations (RPPOs) and National Plant Protection Offices (NPPOs) to provide technical resources for a project to support developing countries to develop basic technical resources necessary for performing critical tasks associated with protecting plant health.

The news release states that the project aims at building capacity in developing countries to implement their obligations under the IPPC and the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (IPSMs). It will develop basic technical resources including manuals, standard operating procedures and training kits. These resources will function as an essential building block for the IPPC’s Implementation and Review Support System (IRSS) Help Desk.

RPPOs and NPPOs are asked to contribute technical resources such as tools, training/course materials, presentations, photos, videos, e-learning, manuals, guidelines, advocacy materials and other such materials that may be useful for phytosanitary capacity development. A web inter-face for uploading such resources and the provision of essential information is provided in the news release. [IPPC News Release].
