IPPC Launches Training Programme in Pest Risk Analysis for Latin America

A regional training program of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) aims to building technical capacity for pest risk analysis in Latin American countries.

It will begin in October 2011 and run until May 2012.

IPPCAugust 2011: The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is launching a regional training programme on pest risk analysis (PRA) for Latin America, aimed at strengthening countries’ technical capacity to: protect their territories against entry of pests; meet PRA requirements of importing markets; and implement recommendations of the IPPC and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The training programme addresses officials of national plant protection organizations and teachers on phytosanitary issues in agricultural educational institutes in Central America, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The course will be given in Spanish by specialists of the IPPC and the Plant Health Inspection Service and Animal Health of the US Department of Agriculture, with support by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The course will consist of four modules and take place from 3 October 2011-15 May 2012. [IPPC News Release]
