IPPC Holds First Meeting of Capacity Development Committee

The first meeting of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Capacity Development Committee developed a long-term work plant to implement the IPPC's globally agreed strategy for the development of capacity in the implementation of phytosanitary measures.

IPPC3 December 2012: The initial meeting of the Capacity Development Committee of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) developed a long-term work plan including innovative ideas for implementing the IPPC’s globally agreed strategy on capacity development.

The Committee is comprised of technical representatives from all regions, and will oversee the development of tools to strengthen global capacity for IPPC implementation. It was established as steering committee for the strategy’s implementation and to guide specific projects. Its aim is to foster national, regional and global cooperation to prevent the spread of pests by supporting the implementation of the IPPC’s science-based guidelines on phytosanitary measures in international trade.

The initial meeting was held 3-7 December 2012, hosted by the Rural Development Directorate of the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies in Rome, Italy. [IPPC Press Release]
