IPCC12 July 2012: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has announced a call for applications for the second round of its Scholarship Programme, aimed at providing funds for young scientists from developing countries for climate change research.

Established with funds from the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, and with support from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the goal of the IPCC Scholarship Programme is to build capacity in the understanding and management of climate change in developing countries.

To be eligible for the awards, given for a year with the possibility of renewal for a second year, and valued at up to USD 20 000 per year, candidates must be PhD-level post-graduate students under the age of 30. Priority is given to students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS). Proposals should focus on one of the following areas: socioeconomic modelling related to climate change; underlying science of climate change; or climate change and water. Candidates selected through the two-level selection process, involving assessment by IPCC scientific experts followed with review by the IPCC Science Board, will be notified in 2013.
