IOMC Toolbox Presented to Chinese Stakeholders

At a meeting to evaluate progress on implementation of China's National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention, the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on behalf of the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) presented the IOMC Toolbox for Decision Making in Chemicals Management.

iomc25 November 2013: At a meeting to evaluate progress on implementation of China’s National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention, the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), on behalf of the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC), presented the IOMC Toolbox for Decision Making in Chemicals Management. UNITAR is one of nine participating organizations in the IOMC.

The 2013 Technical Coordination Group Meeting under Strengthening Institutions, Regulations and Enforcement Capacities for Effective and Efficient Implementation of the National Implementation Plan in China (the SIRE project) was hosted by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection, in Zhoushan City, China, from 11-12 November 2013.

According to UNITAR, the meeting also discussed the ten newly listed persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and the Convention’s related requirements. The meeting was attended by 172 participants from central and local governments, academia, NGOs, the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Bank, and UNITAR.
