International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation Releases 2013 Annual Report

The International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) has released its 2013 Annual Report, highlighting achievements by its member countries to improve energy efficiency through policy, regulatory and financial mechanisms.

It also provides an overview of various sectoral initiatives for industry, buildings, appliances and equipment, and energy provision.

IPEEC28 March 2014: The International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) has released its 2013 Annual Report, highlighting achievements by its member countries to improve energy efficiency through policy, regulatory and financial mechanisms. It also provides an overview of various sectoral initiatives for industry, buildings, appliances and equipment, and energy provision.

Key policy, regulatory and financial mechanisms noted in the report include the development of databases on energy efficiency in energy consumption in Latin America, and on information and lessons learned from multilateral and international energy efficiency programmes in Brazil, China, India, Mexico, the Russian Federation and South Africa. Also noted is a report on finance mechanisms in France, India, Japan, the Russian Federation and the US.

Key sectoral initiatives include: exchanging information and best practices from the Fukushima disaster in Japan; facilitating a pilot energy management system at a 3M plant in Canada; procuring energy efficient street lights; promoting cool roofs in India, Mexico and South Africa; and reporting on 41 case studies of energy efficiency programmes implemented by energy providers. The report also recounts institutional capacity-building efforts through a regional workshop for Southeast Asian countries, as well as a general discussion on the current status and opportunities for international collaboration on energy efficiency.

IPEEC is an intergovernmental entity that seeks to accelerate the adoption of energy policies and practices with support from participating countries, in cooperation with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations and the private sector. Member countries, which collectively represent 75% of global gross domestic product (GDP), include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EU, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, South Africa, South Korea, the UK and the US.
