nsightenergy-ec20 October 2014: Insight_E, the European Commission’s (EC) energy think tank, has launched its website, containing information on the think tank’s work, opportunities to engage in its research and a library of published reports. The website will house statistics and data, scenario information, a list of upcoming webinars, and the think tank’s newsletter, among other resources.

Insight_E, which informs and is funded by the EC, was established in July 2014 by a consortium of European partners. Its multidisciplinary research is guided by a three-year programme of work. According to the consulting firm and launching partner, Enerdata, the think tank will draw from an multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and experts from the energy, trade, economic, environmental, and legal fields, to carry out impact assessments, offer unbiased insights on policy options and objectively advise European policy makers.

The Insight_E Energy Observatory monitors the European transition to sustainable and efficient energy production and consumption in terms of “innovation,” “policy” and “market,” based on the idea that a balance among economy, climate and environment, security, and society must be maintained. The Observatory, whose energy transition mapping will be made available on the website, will support the think tank’s efforts to identify technology trends, the objectives and activities of energy policy stakeholders, and policy options evaluated for their sustainability (i.e. environmental, economic, social and institutional qualities).
