Ilo28 April 2014: Marking 2014 World Health Day for Safety and Health at Work, commemorated on 28 April under the theme ‘Safety and Health in the Use of Chemicals at Work,’ the International Labour Organization (ILO) released a report under the same title. The report calls for collaboration among governments, employers and workers to develop and implement national policies and strategies to achieve sound chemicals management at work.

According to ILO, national policies and strategies must address the health, safety and environmental aspects of both the production and use of chemicals. ILO stresses the need to minimize workers’ exposure to chemicals, as well as emissions. The report calls for new tools to provide information about chemical hazards and risks, and for preventative and protective measures.

ILO has also underscored the need for effective record keeping on effects from chemical exposure. [Publication: Safety and Health in the Use of Chemicals at Work] [ILO Press Release] [UN Press Release]
