ILCMarch 2014: Building on the Antigua Declaration of 2013, the International Land Coalition (ILC) has published a review of how its strategic objectives contribute to strengthening indigenous peoples’ land, territory and resource rights.

The review, titled ‘ILC’s Approach to Indigenous Peoples’ Issues,’ is based on a positioning paper and a process undertaken during 2013 to identify the ILC’s existing work with indigenous peoples and to strengthen its network’s activities going forward. It describes approaches to mainstream the securing of indigenous peoples lands, the use of the Universal Periodic Review to examine human rights issues related to indigenous peoples, and efforts to protect defenders of indigenous land rights. The paper outlines approaches the ILC takes to increase the engagement of indigenous peoples in international fora, and efforts to monitor activities that support indigenous peoples’ rights.

Finally, the ILC highlights efforts to create an ILC thematic group to support current and future work. The ILC clarifies specific regional activities and niches within the report. [ILC Press Release] [Publication: ILC’s Approach to Indigenous Peoples’ Issues]
