story highlights

The Spanish hub of the World Bank's Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) will aid the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in creating a training center and regional expert network on agriculture and environment issues.

24 April 2012: The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) has signed an agreement with Spain’s Economic and Technological Development Distance Learning Centre Foundation (CEDDET) to create a training center for Latin America on agriculture, rural development, natural resources and the environment.

The agreement was signed on 20 April 2012, at IICA Headquarters in San Jose, Costa Rica, by IICA Víctor M. Villalobos and CEDDET Adjunct Director Ricardo Cospedal García.

A central component of the IICA-CEDDET Programme of Cooperation for Institutional Strengthening (PRO-FINT) will be the use of new technologies to offer online training programmes, virtual networking of experts and general support to public administrations through technical assistance in management of human resources and knowledge. Among other things, PRO-FINT will create a regional network of experts on all matters regarding agriculture and the environment.

IICA is a specialized agency of the Organization of American States (OAS). CEDDET is a nonprofit organization created in 2001 by Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the World Bank to promote knowledge sharing and create networks of experts to contribute to sustainable development, principally through the use of information and communications technology (ICT). The Ministry of Economy sponsors and chairs the board of CEDDET. CEDDET serves as the Spanish hub of the World Bank’s Global Development Learning Network (GDLN).
