March 2009: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is organizing a panel discussion titled “Securing a Place for Agriculture at International Climate Discussions.” The event will be held on 27 March 2009 in Washington DC, US, and will address how the role of agriculture, land-use change and forestry for climate change mitigation and adaptation can be adequately reflected in a future climate regime.

Panelists Gerald Nelson, Senior Research Fellow, IFPRI, Siphiwe Mkhize, Minister of Agriculture at the Embassy of South Africa in the US, and Ian Noble, Lead Climate Specialist, World Bank, will discuss the importance of including agriculture in the UNFCCC agenda at the climate change conference in December as well as identify how to communicate the key issues to negotiators in the months leading up to the conference.
