IFPRI LogoNovember 2013: A study from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) assesses household data collected over 13 years in Tigray, Ethiopia, to understand the impact of a land registration programme and its contribution to food availability.

The study examines how the length of land ownership links to food availability. The research confirms the perception of increased tenure security in target communities, and increased food availability. Food security impacts were associated with land rental market participation, and increased investment and productivity on owner occupied land. The research also documents risks due to restrictions on land rental markets.

IFPRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [Publication: Links between Tenure Security and Food Security: Evidence from Ethiopia]
