Held from 17-19 October 2007, in Beijing, China, the conference “Taking Action for the World’s Poor and Hungry People” was part of the 2020 Vision Initiative of the International Food Policy Research Institute.

The meeting examined progress on measurement of poverty and hunger, and found that minorities are often the majority among the poor. Noting diverse priorities by region, participants identified key actions to be taken, including: inclusive growth with emphasis on rural growth; access to assets, infrastructure, markets; strengthening social protection; accelerating investments in health, nutrition and education; and addressing social exclusion.
