During a teleconference meeting on 24 June 2009, the Forum Standing Committee (FSC) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) agreed to suspend the work of the IFCS.

The decision came in response to the decision taken at the Second International Conference on Chemicals Management, to not integrate the Forum into the Conference at this time. In view of the financial situation of the IFCS, the FSC agreed to suspend its work for the foreseeable future and acknowledged that by doing so the result would be to also “suspend” the work of the IFCS. It recognized that the work of the FSC and IFCS may resume in the future if adequate resources became available. It was also agreed that the World Health Organization would be requested to continue hosting the IFCS website so that the wealth of information it contains is not lost.
