IFAD Signs Partnership with EU on Sustainable Agriculture

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the EU and IFAD represents an element of the EU's commitment to improve collaboration with the Rome-based UN food agencies.

The partnership will continue the IFAD and EU relationship with a variety of programmes that address sustainable agricultural intensification, rural financing mechanisms and smallholder adaptation.

10 October 2012: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the EU have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation on addressing sustainable agriculture and food and nutrition security. This MOU is a part of the EU’s June 2011 Statement of Intent to improve cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP) and IFAD.

The partnership will continue the IFAD and EU relationship with a variety of programmes that address sustainable agricultural intensification, rural financing mechanisms and smallholder adaptation.

The European Commission invests approximately €1 billion annually in agriculture and food security, with a particular focus on reducing the number of stunted children. [IFAD Press Release]
