January 2013: The International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) has released the report of the eighth meeting of its International Advisory Board, held on 7 November 2012, in Osaka, Japan. According to the report, the Advisory Board agreed on terms of reference (TOR) for board members and on IETC’s work programme.

The Advisory Board meeting was the first since 2006, as well as the first since IETC has refocused its work to concentrate on waste management.

On revising the TOR for board members, it was agreed that Board members would have two main roles: to provide strategic advice to assist IETC in ensuring that its programme is relevant and well prioritized, adds value to overall international waste management work and achieves increased visibility; and to help raise the profile of IETC and further develop its network of partners.

The Board also provided strategic advice on the IETC work programme, agreeing that the Centre will generate and disseminate knowledge, including through the following activities: developing a global waste outlook; analyzing the economic and business cases for improved waste management; gathering technical information, for example in technology compendiums; and developing policy tools, such as guidelines for national strategies and municipal planning.

The Advisory Board decided to meet again in 2014. [IETC Advisory Board Meeting Webpage] [Publication: Report of the Eighth Meeting of the Advisory Board] [IETC Website]
