The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, has released the April edition of its newsletter, reporting on recent energy research programmes and policies in Japan, China and beyond.

13 April 2012: The April edition of the newsletter of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) reports on energy policy issues, from optimal energy mix options to floating wind turbines and more.

The newsletter reports on meetings of Japan’s Fundamental Issues Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee for Natural Resources and Energy concerning energy mix options, with Masakazu Toyoda, IIEJ Chairman and CEO, recommending that power sources by 2030 should ideally comprise: 25% nuclear power, 25% renewable energy, 35% thermal power, and 15% energy conservation and cogeneration. The newsletter further notes discussions on Japan’s renewable energy industry, noting experimental research plans for solar panel technology as well as floating wind turbines. The newsletter also highlights China’s targets and policies for developing photovoltaic power technology; electric power system reform in Japan; and more.
