The International Energy Agency's Solar Heating and Cooling (IEA-SHC) Programme published guidelines on “The Communication Process,” as one of the deliverables of the SHC's Solar Energy and Architecture wing.
Recommendations are intended to assist in the development of well designed solar architecture, and include strategies to communicate with design and construction teams, the client, and the contractor.
2 September 2012: The International Energy Agency’s Solar Heating and Cooling (IEA-SHC) Programme has released “The Communication Process,” containing communication guidelines with recommendations to assist in the development of well-designed solar architecture. The guidelines are one of the deliverables of the Solar Energy and Architecture wing of the SHC.
The first section of the guidelines deals with specific strategies to draw clients to request and commission solar buildings, including identifying integration considerations for common projects in this arena, such as urban design, retrofit and new build.
The second section addresses communication with design and construction teams, including techniques to ingrain solar energy strategies in project teams, especially regarding the team’s communication with manufacturers. It also contains strategies for communication with the client, and convincing the contractor.
The last section looks at communication and design development, including an examination of the tools for effectively communicating throughout the architectural design process. The guidelines also provide a number of case studies illustrating the various methods of communication seen in solar energy and architecture projects.
