IEA-RETD Summary for Policymakers Addresses Renewables Deployment
story highlights

The IEA-RETD summary makes six recommendations to policymakers on how to improve renewable energy deployment, focusing around improved communication, alliance building, target setting, improved policy integration, and creating fairer marketplaces for renewables.

IEA1 March 2012: The International Energy Agency’s Implementing Agreement on Renewable Energy Technology Deployment (IEA-RETD) has published a summary for policymakers, titled “Six policy actions for accelerated deployment of renewable energy.”

The summary details six policy actions to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy: alliance building with stakeholders; communicating knowledge about renewable energy resources, technologies and issues to raise awareness; target-setting and enacting legislation to implement agreed targets; integrating renewables into policymaking; optimizing policy frameworks and adapting them to specific circumstances; and neutralizing disadvantages in the marketplace. In preparation for the release of a READy book later this year, the summary contains sections on, inter alia: priority setting in renewable energy investment; improving the risk-reward ratio to attract new financing; lessons learned in the sector; and overarching guidelines for getting on track in the implementation of policies to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy.
