story highlights

The newsletter covers a new International Energy Agency's (IEA) Demand-Side Management (DSM) project on behavioral and social norms change and the role of social media therein, cases of "non-wires solutions" in the US Pacific Northwest and DSM in Finland, and a report on energy efficiency obligation (EEO) schemes.

3 July 2012: The latest issue of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Demand-Side Management (DSM) Programme’s newsletter highlights a new project examining a behavioral change perspective on DSM, cases of DSM in the US Pacific Northwest and Finland, and a new report on best practices for energy efficiency obligation (EEO) schemes.

The newsletter highlights a new DSM project, called “Task XXIV Closing the Loop – Behaviour Change in DSM: From Theory to Practice,” which complements a more conventional technology perspective on DSM, and focuses on social norm change and the use of social media to this purpose. The newsletter also includes the 12th article in a series of case studies of DSM’s Task XV on Network Driven DSM, which focuses on “non-wires solutions,” such as demand response, distributed generation, and energy efficiency measures, in the US Pacific Northwest as a way to defer large construction projects of new transmission lines.

The newsletter further features stories on DSM in Finland as part of the Nordic power system and electricity market, and a new DSM report identifying best practices in designing and implementing EEO schemes. [Publication: IEA DSM Newsletter June 2012]
