IDB11 February 2012: The Regional Policy Dialogue for Water and Climate Change Adaptation in the Americas, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and others, announced the “Prize for Actions on Water and Adaptation in the Americas.”

The US$50,000 prize aims to compile actions and experiences related to adaptation to climate change in the water sector in the Americas, as well as lessons learned in their implementation and the promotion of their replication in the region. The competition will contribute to collect best practices in terms of climate and adaptation actions to complete the Inventory of “Water and Adaptation Actions in the Americas” (AguaAAA), a database of water-based climate change adaptation actions and experiences in the Americas.

The deadline for applications is 15 February 2012. Three finalists will be chosen to attend the sixth World Water Forum in Marseille, France, in March 2012, to introduce their plans of action. The winner will be chosen based on five criteria: impact, innovation, sustainability, replicability, and outside participation. The competition is organized by the FEMSA Foundation and the National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) and supported by IDB. [Aguaaa Website] [Competition Webpage (in Spanish)]
