IDB Finances Energy Efficiency Efforts in Jamaica

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a US$20 million loan to finance efforts by Jamaica to increase energy efficiency in the public sector, in order to reduce energy expenditures and greenhouse gas emissions.

IDB17 November 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$20 million loan for Jamaica to design and implement investment measures in energy efficiency in the public sector.

The project: will increase awareness and knowledge among key public and private stakeholders; is expected to repay the investment by reducing energy expenses; and will also result in decreased greenhouse gas emissions. The comprehensive improvements planned under the Program aim at reducing both costs and energy consumption, in line with Jamaica’s National Energy Conservation and Efficiency Policy, developed in 2010.
