ICRAF Newsletter Highlights 2011-2012 Annual Report, Nairobi Science Forum

The newsletter highlights in-country action in Ethiopia, India, Rwanda, Uganda and Viet Nam as well as institutional processes, including the publication of the Annual Report and the convening of the Science Forum.

The Science Forum has a focus on the theme, "Co-investing in trees," and brings together researchers, scientists and ICRAF partners to discuss emerging issues related to investments in and benefits from on-farm trees.

4 September 2012: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) published the August issue of its “Transformations” newsletter, which announces the release of its Annual Report, highlighting issues related to sustainable soil and water management, climate change, value chain management and conservation of native tree species. The newsletter also includes articles addressing farms, food security and climate change adaptation, and notes key publications and the Science Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

The newsletter features an article titled “On the forest’s margins: bringing the benefits of trees from the wild into the farm.” It also reports on the role of agroforestry in improving food security in Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda, as well as the contribution of agroforestry to climate change adaptation in Viet Nam.

The newsletter highlights a primer on agroforestry tree domestication, as well as a report on the need for improved access to tree and seed stocks for farmers in the developing world. The newsletter also introduces a publication on efforts in India to improve carbon stocks in trees for eventual sale on the carbon market.

Finally, the newsletter announces the opening of the Science Forum, taking place from 3-7 September 2012. The Science Forum will focus on the theme, “Co-investing in trees,” and brings together researchers, scientists and ICRAF partners to discuss emerging issues related to investments in and benefits from on-farm trees.
