4 November 2014: Following discussions at the World Congress on Agroforestry and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) World Congress, the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) and partners are proceeding with the development of an International Union of Agroforestry (IUAF).

A draft charter has been prepared for the IUAF outlining proposed goals, objectives, membership, funding and management. In particular, the charter proposes that the IUAF be established to “facilitate cooperation and knowledge sharing in agroforestry.” The charter also calls for forums to promote agroforestry, coordination of engagement in relevant international policy processes, and the promotion and dissemination of agroforestry research.

For an initial two years, ICRAF will assume a lead role in developing and convening the IUAF. ICRAF is part of the CGIAR consortium. [ICRAF Press Release] [Publication: Charter of International Union of Agroforestry]
