cgiar-icraf23 October 2013: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has announced the launch of the Agroforestry Species Switchboard, which is designed to facilitate improved internet searches on agroforestry species, based on the limitation of sources to thirteen trusted sites.

Other advantages of the Switchboard highlighted by ICRAF include ease in identifying naming anomalies, the availability of descriptions of species along with pictures and drawings, and information on species uses and suitability and on the availability of seeds and seedlings.

ICRAF notes that the Switchboard will continue to monitor the linked databases and explore opportunities to add additional databases. The organization also invites user feedback in order to ensure that the Switchboard is responsive to user needs. The development of the tool was supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry. ICRAF is a member of CGIAR.
