World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)July 2014: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) released the July 2014 issue of its newsletter, ‘Transformations,’ highlighting the many values of forests beyond carbon. The newsletter also considers the role of trees in providing nutrition, the importance of dry forests, and the importance of participatory mapping to agroforestry. In addition, it reflects upon the release of the ‘State of the Worlds Forest Genetic Resources’ produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and calls for further action to preserve forest genetic resources.

With regard to events, the newsletter reports on the Committee on Forests (COFO), which convened the 23 to 27 June 2014 and notes ICRAF’s support for the continued recognition and advancement of trees in agricultural areas and forest boundaries. It also features the outcomes of the Bioenergy Forum, examining the contribution of wood fuel and charcoal to global energy needs.
