ICIMOD25 July 2013: The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has established a five-year partnership with Dabur Nepal in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region of Nepal to promote herbal medicine and aromatic plants.

The partnership will establish an herbal garden at the ICIMOD Knowledge Park in Godavari, with the initial establishment costs and technical assistance provided by Dabur Nepal. Dabur Nepal develops ayurvedic products and has promoted the cultivation of endangered plant species across Nepal through 50 cooperatives to support farmer livelihoods. ICIMOD’s 30-hectare Knowledge Park will provide a location for showcasing the important livelihood and biodiversity role of medicinal and aromatic plants. The partnership is likely to result in knowledge sharing on the role of herbal medicine and aromatic plants in sustainable landscape management and provide livelihood benefits.

ICIMOD is a member of the Mountain Partnership, which has its Secretariat based out of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). [ICIMOD Article] [Mountain Partnership Press Release]
