Icao29 October 2009: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Amadeus, a travel industry leader in distribution and technology, have teamed to use the booking data of the over one million airline customers processed daily by Amadeus to create a global carbon footprint database for individual travelers.

To accomplish this, Amadeus is integrating a Carbon Emissions Calculator into its reservation platform by mid 2010, based on ICAO methodologies. According to ICAO Secretary General Raymond Benjamin, the goal is to “make more individuals and organizations aware of their carbon footprint, ensuring that those wishing to offset will be doing so based on an official, globally accepted tool.” [ICAO Press Release]
