10 May 2013: The Secretariat of the UN High-level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda (HLP) has released an update on the Panel’s progress. The HLP plans to submit its final report to the UN Secretary-General on 30 May 2013, following its fifth and final meeting (HLP 5) during the third week of May. The report will become publicly available on 31 May.

The HLP Co-Chair advisors and envoys met in April to review a draft of the report. During HLP 5 panel members will discuss a second draft of the report, aiming to finalize its key proposals and recommendations.

The report is expected to include, inter alia: recommendations on the shape and vision of the post-2015 agenda, building on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and with a view of ending poverty; principles for reshaping the global partnership for development and strengthening accountability; and recommendations on how to build and sustain broad political consensus around economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainable development in the post-2015 agenda, including addressing challenges of conflict and post-conflict countries.

After submitting the report to the Secretary-General, the HLP will hold a stakeholder outreach event on 31 May, in New York, the US. Additional national and regional outreach events will follow. Noting that a year-and-a-half remains until 2015, the update says the HLP aims for its report to be useful in discussing and refining a road map for the post-2015 agenda.

According to the update, the HLP interacted with over 5,000 organizations in 121 countries, and received 880 written submissions throughout its consultation process, resulting in “immense depth and richness” in its discussions.
