GWP Global logotype17 October 2014: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) has introduced its Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Toolbox to academics in China through two workshops. The Toolbox is an open database with a library of case studies and references on water management at global, regional, national and local levels.

The IWRM Toolbox supports the establishment of a global communications platform to develop capacity and share knowledge. It elaborates upon 59 different tools based on real-life experiences and lessons learned on IWRM implementation. The toolbox includes over 200 case studies illustrating how the tools work in practice.

GWP introduced the IWRM Toolbox and its activities at a workshop at Hohai University, one of the largest Chinese universities for water education. Presentations focused on the IWRM concept, water education and IWRM applications in China. Participants called for additional IWRM cases for study at Chinese universities, noting that Chinese universities do not incorporate sufficient education and training on IWRM.

At Changsha University of Science and Technology, GWP presented its knowledge management work and the IWRM toolbox. Presentations also addressed transboundary water management among China and its neighbors, with a focus on international water law; soil water management; and disaster risk management (DRM) of flood spillovers.

Over 40 participants attended the workshop at Hohai University, which took place from 22-23 September. The Changsha University seminar convened on 25 September, with over 40 participants. [GWP Press Release] [IWRM Toolbox]
