GWP Hosts Workshop on WRM Financing

Participants from nine Southeast Asian countries discussed water resources management (WRM) financing at a workshop organized by the Global Water Partnership's (GWP) Southeast Asia office.

Participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam shared their perspectives on WRM initiatives and financing needs, based on findings from country studies and national workshops.

globalwaterasia22 October 2013: Participants from nine Southeast Asian countries discussed water resources management (WRM) financing at a workshop organized by the Global Water Partnership’s (GWP) Southeast Asia office. Participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam shared their perspectives on WRM initiatives and financing needs, based on findings from country studies and national workshops.

The workshop had three objectives: to understand WRM financing frameworks; to share information on the level of public investments for WRM initiatives; and to develop and propose financing mechanisms to increase WRM financing. Participants also discussed WRM institutional arrangements, human resource capacities and technical competencies, and planning and decision making.

The workshop took place on 3 October in Yangon, Myanmar. In addition to country participants and GWP officials, representatives from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Network of Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO) and Cap-Net attended. [GWP Press Release]
