GWP Annual Report Highlights Water Security and Post-2015 Work

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) released its 2013 Annual Report, titled ‘GWP In Action.' The report emphasizes the partnership's contributions to the UN consultations on water security, in particular assessment of progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and participation in the process to define the post-2015 development agenda.

GWP Global logotype20 May 2014: The Global Water Partnership (GWP) released its 2013 Annual Report, titled ‘GWP In Action.’ The report emphasizes the partnership’s contributions to the UN consultations on water security, in particular assessment of progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and participation in the process to define the post-2015 development agenda.

The report highlights that the partnership now includes 13 Regional Water Partnerships, 84 Country Water Partnerships and 2,904 partner organizations in 172 different countries. The report also describes: work of the GWP Technical Committee; work achieved during 2013; and GWP achievements from 2009-2013.

The report examines progress related to four goals: promoting water as a key part of sustainable development; addressing critical development challenges, including water security and climate resilience; reinforcing knowledge sharing and communications; and building a more effective network. Within the context of those goals, the reports breaks out specific actions by region, highlighting cases from, inter alia: Burundi; Rwanda; the Drin Basin in the Balkans; Greece; Georgia; China; Bangladesh; the Caribbean; Peru; and Burkina Faso.
