Greening the Blue Announces Winner of “Sustainable UN” Photo Competition

The winning entry, submitted by Nicolas Jarraud in collaboration with colleagues from the UN Development Programme and the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, shows a group of UN staff posing in a recycling bin.

5 June 2011: As part of celebrations marking World Environment Day 2011, the UN’s “Greening the Blue” initiative announced the winners of the Greening the Blue Photo Competition, organized in collaboration with the UN Photographic Society.

The theme of the competition was “Visions of a Sustainable UN.” The winning entry, submitted by Nicolas Jarraud in collaboration with colleagues from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, shows a group of UN staff posing in a recycling bin.

Entries were judged by UN experts in sustainability and communications. According to Greening the Blue, 377 photos were submitted from over 40 countries. A framed copy of the winning photo will be sent to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. [UNEP Press Release]
