Green Economy Coalition Highlights Preparations for UNCSD
story highlights

The August newsletter of the Green Economy Coalition (GEC) highlights efforts by coalition members to prepare for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), including through the organization of national dialogues on green economy.

1 August 2011: The Green Economy Coalition (GEC) has published the August edition of its newsletter, highlighting coalition members’ preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

The newsletter reports that EcoUnion, a GEC member, had its first workshop on the green economy last month, and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), another GEC member, together with national partners, will be coordinating a national dialogue on green economy in Kazakhstan. With both dialogues, the Coalition aims to build on knowledge generated regarding debates and issues on the ground in different cultural and ecological contexts.

The newsletter further reports that the GEC Secretariat has developed an information pack to provide guidance to GEC members and others who are developing national dialogues on a green economy. The GEC is addressing the question of “how to achieve a green economy” by designating part of its new website, which is soon to be launched, as a “Know How” section to draw together the best thinking from across the Coalition and wider community on accelerating the transition to a green economy. Contributions are invited on this issue.

The newsletter also notes policy development highlights and efforts by the Coalition to represent its collective presence at Rio+20. [Publication: August 2011 Newsletter]
