GRASP Launches Application to Save Great Apes

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced the release of a mobile phone application called 'apeAPP,' by the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP).

The application allows users to learn about chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and bonobos in Africa and Asia.

It includes information on their habitats, food preferences, survival threats, and other facts, including links for making donations in support of projects.

Richard Leakey, GRASP Ambassador, highlighted the importance of engaging the public in the conservation of great apes. The apeAPP currently includes content supplied by GRASP partners, including the African Wildlife Foundation for bonobos, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International for gorillas, the Orangutan Conservancy for orangutans, and the Goualougo Triangle Ape Project for chimpanzees.
