Governments Provide Additional Financial Support for IPPC Meetings and Implementation

The EU provided additional financial support to the IPPC Implementation Review and Support System and to improve developing country participation; Norway provided financial means to ensure interpretation in all FAO languages during the upcoming meeting of the IPPC governing body.

February 2011: Following calls by Mohammad Katbeh Bader, chairperson of the Committee on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM), which is the International Plant Protection Convention’s (IPPC) governing body, the EU and Norway have announced additional financial contributions to support IPPC implementation.

A donation from the EU Directorate General for Trade of €400.000 will support the development of the IPPC Implementation Review and Support System (IRSS). The EU also agreed to an increased annual contribution of €300,000 for 2011-2013 to the IPPC Secretariat to improve developing country participation in the CPM, the Standards Committee and regional workshops on new international standards for phytosanitary measures. The Government of Norway announced a contribution of €11.000 to ensure complete interpretation in all FAO languages during the upcoming sixth session of the CPM.
