Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership Pledges Continued Support for SE4ALL

The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) announced new initiatives relating to the provision of solar lanterns for off-grid households, capacity-building workshops on electrification projects, and funding of the Electrification Roadmaps for Southern Africa.

17 June 2012: At the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) announced its continued support to the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative and presented concrete initiatives in this regard.

The new initiatives, which aim to contribute to achieving universal access to energy by 2030, include: the provision of 50,000 solar lanterns to off-grid households in cooperation with the Global BrightLight Foundation; the expansion of capacity building workshops to support electrification projects in developing and emerging countries; and funding of the development of the Electrification Roadmaps for Southern Africa. GSEP is also collaborating with SE4ALL to expand its role in further implementing SE4ALL’s electrification action plan.
