31 May 2010: Representatives of the EU, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar and Nepal participated in Asia’s regional conference of the Global Climate Change Alliance on 30-31 May 2010, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The regional conference took stock of challenges posed by climate change in Asia, focusing on vulnerable countries’ specific problems, strategies and response actions, existing financial mechanisms and prospects for reaching an effective global agreement on climate change.
The representatives of Bangladesh, Maldives and the EU signed a Joint Declaration to support adaptation in Asian Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), whereby the EU will provide financial support national climate change strategies for prevention, mitigation and preparedness.
The Global Climate Change Alliance is an initiative launched in 2007 by the European Commission to deepen dialogue and cooperation on climate change between the EU and developing countries.
