GEO Releases March Issue of GEO News

The Group on Earth Observation (GEO) has released the March issue of its newsletter, "GEO News," which includes information on the new GEO Geohazard Supersite on the Tohoku-oki Event, established immediately after the 11 March earthquake and tsunami, and on GEO's Biodiversity Observation Network.

21 March 2011: The Group on Earth Observation (GEO) has released the March 2011 issue of its newsletter, “GEO News,” which includes information on the new GEO Geohazard Supersite on the Tohoku-oki Event, established immediately after the 11 March earthquake and tsunami to aid rescue efforts and advance scientific understanding.

The newsletter also features articles on Germany’s national GEO coordination strategy, strengthening GEO System of Systems’ (GEOSS) support to climate impacts researchers and promoting EU engagement in GEOSS. It also highlights that the GEO Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON) convened an International Expert Meeting from 1-3 March 2011, in Wageningen, Netherlands, to prepare an “Assessment of the Adequacy of Existing Observation Capabilities for the CBD [Convention on Biological Diversity] 2020 Targets”.

Finally, the newsletter notes that Tajikistan became the 86th Member of GEO on 3 March 2011. [Publication: GEO News Issue 13]
