The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved a US$3.5 million grant to support a project, implemented by the World Bank, aimed at promoting sustainable forest management in the Ngoyla-Mintom Forest in Cameroon.
The project is designed to conserve over 160,000 hectares for sustainable management and low impact community activities.
5 April 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved a US$3.5 million grant to support conservation and sustainable management of the Ngoyla-Mintom Forest in Cameroon.
The Conservation and Sustainable Management within the Ngoyla-Mintom Forest project, to be implemented by the World Bank, seeks to establish a forest planning and management structure that incorporates participation from the Cameroonian Government and civil society. The structure will in turn aim to increase access to income-generating opportunities for the 10,200 people in the project area. Furthermore, it will create a Livelihood Support Mechanism to help local communities prosper sustainably.
