March 2009: The Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) will hold a workshop on Climate Change Science and Technology Advice for the GEF Fifth Replenishment (GEF5) on 30 March 2009, in Washington, DC, US. The objective of the workshop is to develop scientific and technical guidance for GEF5 programming on climate mitigation policies and technologies to respond effectively to recent scientific, technical and policy evidence.

The GEF is currently going through a process of replenishment negotiations in parallel with the development of strategic objectives and programmes for its focal areas. The GEF serves as a financial mechanism of the UNFCCC and supports programmes on energy efficiency, renewable energies, and sustainable transportation through its core Trust Fund. The Facility also manages two special funds under the UNFCCC – the Least Developed Countries Fund and the Special Climate Change Fund.
Workshop outcomes will inform STAP’s contribution to the work of the GEF Technical Advisory Group on climate change. [Workshop Information]
